Guidance and Psychological Counseling

History, Year of Establishment and Brief Introduction of the Department

It is located under the umbrella of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department, Educational Sciences Department. The Department of Educational Sciences is the only program within the department that still continues as an undergraduate program. The Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling aims to train personnel who will provide protective, preventive and improving mental health services for individuals of all ages from pre-birth to death. Graduates of the field of guidance and psychological counseling, which started to gain a place in the education system in the 1950s, mainly work as psychological counseling and guidance specialists in public and private schools. In the Ministry of National Education, Guidance and Research Centers, Ministry of Justice, Police Department, etc. They provide psychological counseling services in different institutions and organizations such as. Since it is an area where specialization is required, it is observed that graduates are in demand for postgraduate programs.

 

Degree Awarded

This department is subject to the first stage degree system of 240 ECTS credits in the field of Guidance and Psychological Counseling in higher education. When the program is successfully completed and program qualifications are met, you will receive a Bachelor's degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling.

Admission and Registration Conditions

Candidates must have a high school or equivalent school diploma and have received sufficient points from the University Student Selection Examination. Recognition of Prior Learning The provisions of the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions" apply.

 

Qualification Conditions and Rules

In order to obtain a bachelor's degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling, students must successfully complete all of the compulsory and elective courses (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) in the program and have a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.

 

Program Profile

The purpose of the RPD Undergraduate Program is; Having guidance and psychological counseling knowledge, skills and attitudes, and being able to effectively provide psychological counseling and guidance services for the educational, professional, personal-social development of individuals in various institutions and organizations; Adheres to professional ethical principles, rules and laws; sensitive to cultural differences; To train psychological counselors and counselors who follow the developments in their profession, research, question and think critically, and know how to deal with the problems and crises they encounter.

Professional Profiles of Graduates

Students who graduate from the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance can work in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, Private Educational Institutions, MEB Guidance and Research Centers, Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers, Academic Staff of Universities and Psychological Counseling Units of Universities, Private Psychological Counseling Centers and Psychotherapy Centers. They can work as Psychological Counselors in Family Counseling Centers, kindergartens and nurseries. They can also work as Psychological Counselors/Human Resources Specialists in the Human Resources and Training Units of private companies, healthcare institutions and businesses.

 

Transition to Higher Degree Programs

Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in Psychological Counseling and Guidance or Interdisciplinary Family Counseling graduate programs, provided that they receive a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge.

 

Exams, Measurement and Evaluation

It is implemented in accordance with Article 44 of the Associate and Undergraduate Education Regulations taken by the senate decision of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.

 

Graduation Requirements

Students studying in this program must have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and receive at least a DC grade from all courses prescribed in their curriculum in order to graduate. The minimum ECTS required for graduation is 240. Students are also required to complete their compulsory internship within the specified period and quality.

Department/Faculty/Program Opportunities

Students attending the RPD Undergraduate Program can benefit from all the facilities of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (library, dining hall, dormitories, sports facilities, student clubs, cafes, etc.), and they can also benefit from the library and computer laboratories within the faculty of education. Additionally, there are client-counselor rooms to be used in the Individual Psychological Counseling course.
There are nine faculty members in the Guidance and Psychological counseling program of the Department of Educational Sciences, including one professor, six doctoral faculty members, one lecturer and one research assistant. Students can meet with faculty members during designated meeting hours.

Students attending the PDR undergraduate program can become a member of the Çomu PDR Community and participate in all kinds of events, activities, seminars and studies organized by the community.

ÇOMÜ Psychological Counseling and Guidance Community

Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University PDR Community is a voluntary structure where students within our university came together in 2015. The organs of ÇOMÜ PDR Community are; It consists of the Board of Directors, General Assembly and Audit Board. The Group's Board of Directors consists of a total of 5 people, including a president, a vice-president, a secretary and 2 members, who are elected on an odd number basis by secret ballot at the General Assembly.

Our group supports the versatile development of students by carrying out education, health, sports, social, artistic, scientific and cultural projects within the Department of Health, Culture and Sports in order to utilize their students' extracurricular time and meet their social needs. Our goals for students of the Guidance and Psychological Counseling department are to increase communication among students within the community and provide an environment for information exchange; To contribute to the social and professional development of students by collaborating with other departments of our university; Directing students' interest and motivation to the right targets through educational seminars and panels; To improve the relationship between students and faculty members and students by organizing cultural and social events. For students in other departments, contributing to the recognition of PDR science; organizing events on PDR in relation to different disciplines; Our PDR Community, which has a unifying and integrative structure for these purposes, spreads the field of mental health, touches more people and shares new stories.
